I am motivated to help my clients and myself live our best lives. Insurance companies are motivated to make as much money as possible. These goals are not in alignment. Insurance reimbursement rates do not allow therapists to make a living wage while maintaining a reasonable caseload. Also, insurance companies’ ideas about what is best for clients (actually what’s best for the insurance company) do not allow therapists to use their clinical judgment and experience to provide clients with the best care. I believe that therapists’ time and skills should be used to assist clients, not trying to extract payment from and justify care to a broken system. 

I applaud the therapists who have the resources to work within the insurance system. For my own well-being and to provide the best service to clients, I am opting out.
